Brand & Creative Storytelling

Hi there! I'm Danielle, a creative and brand director with a passion for travel, an eye for design & curation, a flair for capturing stories from behind the lens, and a love of cocktails. I believe in the power of a great playlist, and the promise of positive energy when glasses clink together in celebration. I'm on a mission to use my creative powers to bring good vibes across the globe.

“You can't use up creativity, the more you use the more you have.”

Brands I've worked with

CreativeLive’s brand is built on the notion that each person, be it employee, instructor, or peer is a champion for creators. As the brand lead I wrote and produced this video as part of the evolution of our brand expression. We highlight the imperfection of the creative process through motion and celebrate the energy of creativity. It was used as a pitch piece for partnership opportunities.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

At Trusted Health, I oversaw creative and brand. In 2023 we embarked on a brand refresh to evolve the current brand and address challenges with fragmentation and accessibility. We launched the refresh with a campaign for Nurses Week, we created new interactive brand guidelines, implemented a new digital asset management system, and launched org-wide with training and office hours. The refresh involved a fresh color palette, new fonts, new iconography, curated photo direction, and updated voice and tone. In addition, we did a mini-guide for Trusted’s B2B product, Works, to bring some much-needed clarity around the identity.

As part of a series about CreativeLive’s community, I developed a short film centered around its founder and CEO photographer, Chase Jarvis. From a brand perspective it was my goal to help students connect with the authenticity of CreativeLive's roots through the founder’s journey. This is the trailer for the piece that served as a jumping off point for our ongoing series of creators of all stripes called Real Creative Lives

At CreativeLive we celebrated the creative process in all its messy imperfect ways. I led brand re-positioning with leadership to create an authentic brand identity that mirrored the creative process and captured the spirit of our students, employees, and instructors. We created a new mission, vision, value proposition, brand attributes, visual identity, and voice and tone.

Brand Strategy & Creative

CREATIVELIVE

In the summer of 2021, I did brand consulting and photography for Loka, a San Francisco based technology consultancy connecting Silicon Valley startups with a highly skilled and vetted tech workforce. I supported the CMO by workshopping positioning strategy to frame up a website revamp and tweaks to the existing brand expression. We also established photography direction and did a candid shoot to capture the leadership team in action.

This video was created as a tool for the partnership team to highlight CreativeLive’s connection to innovative and groundbreaking brands. In a quickly changing e-learning space, brand partnerships were a key component to elevating the immersive experience. From GoPro to Red Bull our team tested and pushed the boundaries of live education.

At Blanton Turner, I ran a creative and marketing team responsible for 70+ residential and commercial brands across the Pacific Northwest. I led our branding efforts and created and refreshed over a dozen brand identities in 18 months. Over these projects I did everything from naming, to positioning, to directing creative for the brand design and overseeing copy, and photography. We also launched a refreshed Blanton Turner website focusing on a people-first approach to property management. Here are some of the brands in action:

Lauren Ko of @Lokokitchen creates stunning pies and pairs them with fantastic puns. She recently launched her first book Pieometry and Anthropologie tapped me to capture Lauren in action with some of their products for their blog and social. It was such a treat, no pun intended (or is there?) to get to photograph her at work on some of her beautifully baked designs. I was also lucky enough to photograph Lauren's author photo for her book.

As part of a holiday campaign for CreativeLive I developed a branded marketing piece to celebrate the spontaneity of creativity. We follow creatives through a night of collaboration. It won a Silver Telly in the digital category / branded content & entertainment.

In the summer and fall of 2021 I worked with the team at green-certified and women-owned small business Santa Barbara Company doing content marketing. It was such a treat to photograph the floral design, the shop, the gifts, and the makers, farmers, and local artisans making it all happen. I also created email campaigns, Instagram content, helped with site updates for the online store, and produced a new brand video.

CreativeLive’s brand is built on the notion that each person, be it employee, instructor, or peer is a champion for creators. This video was concepted as a short brand piece to illustrate that idea and serve as a larger narrative across social and site touchpoints. There's a creator in all of us.

kimber elements is a Seattle-based jewelry design shop launching a new effort to bring more awareness and energy towards social impact. They’ve partnered with indigenous women in Kenya to co-design and produce a line of fair trade jewelry to provide economic independence, business skills and scholarships to young women who are interested in studying wildlife conservation. We did a photo shoot for the brand launch and look book.

In my time at CreativeLive I led a repositioning exercise that led to a new expression of our brand. We wanted to highlight the student along their path akin to the hero's journey. It's a roller coaster full of ups and downs and nothing about it is straightforward. The creative process is a unifying experience, no matter your skill level. This video kicked off our introduction to the new expression and positioned us as a learning space for all.

One of my favorite projects at CreativeLive was developing a portrait system to enhance the brand story. We needed consistency to showcase instructors in an elevated way to introduce the idea of the people behind the scenes. What better way to show off our creative community than portraits highlighting everyone's personalities? To continue to foster authenticity, the approach relies on available light and utilizes some prompts to elicit candid and natural reactions from instructors, students, and staff.

"Danielle has impeccable style, a strong point-of-view, and an innate sense bringing brands to life in a way that resonates with their audience. She is highly creative and multi-faceted across strategy, photo + content curation, and storytelling through video. She is an asset to any company looking for a creative and brand swiss army knife and knows how to collaborate effectively cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Content Marketing, Social Media, Acquisition, and Creatives."

Daniel Goldberg, CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER AT LOKA

"The best make it look annoyingly easy. Danielle makes branding seem effortless, and somehow is still the person I wanna grab drinks with. She’s a truly rare find: A creative who embodies the brand, speaks the lingo, and expresses visual identity without a trace of ego. She’s a three-headed unicorn who made everything we worked on better, then insisted it was my idea. Every brand needs a Danielle. If you can interest her, hold on and don’t let go."

Danielle hired me at CreativeLive at a pivotal point in my career, and I couldn't be more grateful for it.  She's one of the most passionate people I've ever worked with. Danielle exudes positivity, empathy, and drive, and with her multidisciplinary skill set, she's definitely someone you want in the room on any sort of creative project, whether it involves copy, design, video, or photography. She is dedicated at a level that includes everything from big-picture thinking to the smallest details. When providing direction for brand campaigns, she brought ideas with high creative impact that still connected to the strategic needs of the company—a balance that's often hard to strike. I'd jump at the chance to work with her again.

"Danielle was one of my favorite people to work with while I was at CreativeLive. She is creative, smart, and an excellent collaborator. When I needed to come up with compelling marketing campaigns for my courses I loved turning to Danielle for ideas and inspiration. She's also a great team player and lovely to work with, never causing drama and always level-headed. I'd work with her again in a heartbeat!"

"Danielle and I worked closely together on several projects over the past 4 years. Her creative direction in brand + storytelling guides and inspires the creatives she works with to impactful results and beautiful concepts. I worked with Danielle on many brand level projects at CreativeLive and personally, branding and designing for our own individual side businesses. She's an incredible creative force wherever she goes and she elevates everything she works on."

Lindsey Thomas, ASSOCIATE CREATIVE DIRECTOR, GoPro

"I've never worked with a more passionate person than Danielle. She puts her everything into a brand. Her soul, her blood, sweat and tears, and everything in between. From high level strategy thinking to video production to photo curation, she really is a creative unicorn. Any brand would be lucky to have her in their arsenal."
